Now we're talking... Depending on your national origin and background you may or may not have any luck purchasing one, but I'll assume you're in America. For some overall info on the M16 look here:

I'm not an expert, but I'm fairly certain you won't get a fully automatic model legally. Semi-automatic, though, I think your best bet is to look at GunBroker.com for the AR15 (fires the same .223) variant of the M16.

Here's one in 'post-ban' configuration, legal to own in most states, and relatively cheap at $500 currently, although I imagine the auction will end higher.
